Hi Jeff,
I would describe the HUE control as a more subtle EQ control. Turning it CW makes it brighter, CCW darker. So it is like a TONE control in that sense, but it changes the sonic character somewhat while at the same time changing the darkness or brightness. Hence -- the term HUE which is a term meaning "gradation of color."
